HUNTERSVILLE, NC — Parents and church members are looking for answers after accusations of embezzlement at a Christian school in Huntersville. The Chief Financial Officer of Southlake Christian Academy resigned last month.
An attorney for the school says they started finding evidence of possible wrongdoing in mid-September, after Wayne Parker left. That evidence pointed to possible involvement from Southlake Presbyterian senior pastor Wade Malloy. He resigned on October 5. Police are not involved in the investigation right now.
“There’s a very serious philosophical debate going on the church about whether it’s right to haul a fellow Christian, regardless of what that person has done, in front of the civil authorities,” said attorney Robert Sawyer.
The attorney says the church is not trying to cover up anything. Leaders want to make sure they have all of their bases covered before they involve the police.
