CHARLOTTE, NC — If you go by the numbers, crime in Charlotte appears to be headed in the right direction.
CMPD say the third quarter crime stats are down significantly from last year. The department reports overall crime is down 2.2 percent. Murders showed the biggest decline. So far there have been 29 homicides, compared to 40 at the same time last year. That’s a 27 percent drop. Robberies are also supposedly down 13 percent.
Police say they’re in the middle of an operation to stop Internet-based prostitution in local hotels. They tell WCCB they’ve seen an increase in the number of men being robbed after hiring prostitutes, but they declined to provide specific stats.
