CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) β The World Anti-Doping Agency has met with Kenyan officials over a government-commissioned report into alleged doping and its conclusion that the East African country has no effective program to fight drug cheating.
WADA says it will oversee the establishment of a national anti-doping body in Kenya, which regularly produces champion distance runners. Anti-doping agencies from Norway and China will assist.
The meeting between WADA and Kenyan government officials in Cape Town, South Africa, followed the release of the report by an anti-doping task force.
While looking into alleged doping in Kenya’s No. 1 sport, athletics, investigators said they discovered steroids in supplements given to the national rugby sevens team and recommended coaches face disciplinary hearings. The Kenya Rugby Union denies any wrongdoing in its national teams.
