Shiffrin, Fenninger share win in World Cup GS

SOELDEN, Austria (AP) β€” Mikaela Shiffrin and Anna Fenninger shared victory in the season-opening women’s World Cup giant slalom on Saturday.

The American teenager, who led after the first run, and the defending overall champion from Austria both finished in a two-run combined time of 2 minutes, 39.85 seconds.

It was Shiffrin’s first win in GS, adding to her nine victories in slalom. Fenninger earned her fifth straight win in the discipline after winning the last four GS races last season.

Austrians Eva-Maria Brem and Kathrin Zettel came third and fourth, respectively, 0.66 and 0.67 off the lead.
