CRAMERTON, NC — Counselors will be on standby to assist grieving students at Cramerton Middle School Monday.

A fellow student, 14-year-old Steven Canipe, died on his way to the Gaston County school Friday morning.  Witnesses say he darted in front of a car on South New Hope Road.  That’s about half a mile from the school.  Neighbors tell WCCB they aren’t surprised an accident happened on the busy road.

“It’s hard even if you’re trying to pull out from this store.  It’s hard in the afternoons cause there’s so many people moving in and out.  It’s hard even to get out.  So I can see it being hard to cross the road if he was walking,” said Cramerton resident Jordan Lutz.

Troopers are still investigating, but don’t think the driver will be charged.
