West Charlotte High School Football Coach Dies

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — West Charlotte High football coach D’amon “Mo” Collins died Sunday morning. 

A statement sent out by school officials said Collins passed away from an unexpected illness. He was 38.

Collins is from Charlotte and played for West Charlotte. He was a three-year starter at the University of Florida. In 1998, Collins was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Additional guidance counselors will be at West Charlotte High School on Monday to provide support for students and staff members.
