UNDATED (AP) β€” The World Series came to an end last night and that means baseball’s second postseason, the “Hot Stove League,” has begun. Two teams today announced transactions. First, the Cardinals exercised their 2015 contract option on pitcher John Lackey, while the Reds exercised Johnny Cueto’s (KWAY’-tohz) $10 million contract option after a 20-9 season in which he had a 2.25 earned run average.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β€” The NFL game tonight is being played in Charlotte, North Carolina. The game has the Panthers playing host to the New Orleans Saints in a contest that will determine first place in the NFC South. Carolina starts the game with a record of 3-4-1 while the Saints are 3-4.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) β€” Second-ranked Florida State is on the road this evening for a game in Louisville with the Cardinals. The Seminoles have won their last 23 straight games and have a record of 7-0. The Cards are 6-2.

CLEVELAND (AP) β€” The second era of LeBron James basketball in Cleveland starts tonight as the Cavaliers play host to the Knicks. It was four years ago that James left town for the Miami Heat and two NBA championships. He returns with fans hoping for similar results.

UNDATED (AP) β€” The preseason Associated Press women’s Top-25 basketball poll has been released and the top team is Connecticut. The Huskies received all 35 first-place votes after a 40-0 season. The second-ranked school is South Carolina with Notre Dame third, Tennessee fourth and Texas A&M fifth.
