KANSAS CITY, Missouri (AP) β Madison Bumgarner capped his World Series MVP performance by allowing two hits over five shutout innings of relief to help the Giants complete a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals in Game 7. Bumgarner was 2-0 with one save, a 0.43 and nine hits allowed in 21 innings in three games. Pablo Sandoval was 3-for-3 with two runs scored last night’s victory, and Michael Morse singled home the tiebreaking run to finish with two RBIs.
LOS ANGELES (AP) β Los Angeles Lakers rookie forward Julius Randle is expected to miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his broken right leg. The seventh overall pick in this year’s draft was injured midway through the fourth quarter of his NBA season debut Tuesday night against Houston. He is expected to make a full recovery, but the Lakers anticipate he won’t play this season.
IRVING, Texas (AP) β Dallas owner Jerry Jones says quarterback Tony Romo’s status could be a game-time decision against Arizona on Sunday as he is coming off his third back injury in 18 months. Jones said on his radio show that Romo’s injury would not end his season. The Cowboys have put linebacker Justin Durant on season-ending injured reserve with a torn arm muscle suffered in Monday’s loss to Washington.
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) β The University of Georgia has been told by the NCAA that running back Todd Gurley must sit out until Nov. 15 for accepting more than $3,000 for autographed memorabilia and other items over a two-year period. Gurley missed the last two games while the school investigated allegations of improper benefits. The school says it will appeal the ruling.
NEW YORK (AP) β The NHL has hit New York Rangers defenseman John Moore with a five-game suspension without pay for an illegal hit to the head of Minnesota Wild forward Erik Haula. Moore was assessed a match penalty in Monday’s game when he delivered a shoulder to Haula’s head in the New York zone after Haula shot the puck. Moore will begin serving the suspension Saturday and will be eligible to return on Nov. 11 at home against Pittsburgh.
