CMS: Superintendent Heath Morrison Resigns

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – CMS officials confirmed that Heath E. Morrison will resign as superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools on Thursday, November 6th. The Board of Education will have a special meeting at noon on Thursday to take action on a separation agreement which has yet to be finalized.

“We appreciate Heath’s time and his contributions to the district and this community over the past two and a half years,” said Mary McCray, chairperson of the Board of Education.

“I am exceptionally grateful to the Board of Education for giving me this opportunity and thank them for their leadership and support during my time as superintendent,” said Heath Morrison, superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

The district’s Deputy Superintendent Ann Clark will assume the responsibilities of superintendent as part of her duties as second in command. The Board will seek a replacement for the superintendent but has not made any plans to begin a search at this time.

Morrison became the Superintendent in 2012 after Dr. Peter Gorman resigned.  Morrison was previously the superintendent for Washoe County School District in Reno, Nevada.

The reason Morrison gave in his statement is so he can commit to his family, most especially his mother. Morrison says “… I can’t give my job the full attention it needs while making sure I address her needs at this critical time.”
