ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police say they are looking into a former rape case at Winthrop University due to similarities in a recent sexual assault.
Investigators arrested 24-year-old John Roddey Jr. Friday after he allegedly held a weapon to a student’s body, forced her to take off her clothes and raped her near a dorm on campus.
Police believe the recent case has several similarities to a kidnapping and sexual assault that happened in 2011.
In that case, investigators say a man used a kitchen knife to threaten and kidnap a student as she was walking to her car. The suspect forced the victim to drive to a nearby apartment complex where he allegedly raped her.
Detectives plan on looking into forensic evidence to try to link the cases. Roddey is currently in the York County Detention Center with no bond.
