CHARLOTTE, NC — The Supreme Court may be forced to get involved in the legal battle over same-sex marriage. Β The U.S. Appeals Court ruled Thursday in favor of same-sex marriage bans in four states.

The unions are now illegal in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. Β The split among appeals courts almost guarantees a review of the issue by the Supreme Court.

Magistrates in North Carolina have to marry gay couples, or face losing their jobs. Β The Chief Administrator of the courts says there is no federal law or rulings that would exempt them because of religious beliefs against the marriages.
