Grizzlies still unbeaten, Sixers still winless
UNDATED (AP) β The Memphis Grizzlies had never opened an NBA season with more than two straight wins before this year, and their team-record streak continues.
The Grizzlies remain one of the league’s three unbeaten teams after improving to 6-0 with a 91-89 triumph at Oklahoma City. Mike Conley scored 20 points, Courtney Lee finished with 17 and Zach Randolph added 16 as the Grizzlies dropped the Thunder to 1-5.
Oklahoma City twice had a chance to take the lead in the waning moments, but the Thunder were called for a five-second violation with 5.9 second left before Serge Ibaka (ih-BAH’-kah) missed a 3-pointer from beyond the top of the key at the buzzer.
Memphis won despite an off night from leading scorer Marc Gasol (gah-SAHL’) who finished with just eight points.
Also in the NBA:
β LeBron James had 22 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds as Cleveland downed Denver 110-101. Kevin Love finished with 19 points and eight boards to help the Cavaliers win for just the second time in five games.
β Dallas crushed Utah 105-82 behind Dirk Nowitzki’s 27 points and 10 rebounds. Tyson Chandler added 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Monta (MAHN’-tay) Ellis scored 13 as the Mavericks bounced back from Thursday’s loss to Portland.
β Sacramento is 5-1 and riding a five-game winning streak after erasing an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter of a 114-112, double-overtime victory at Phoenix. Rudy Gay hit a turnaround jumper with 1:07 to play, and DeMarcus Cousins had 25 points and 18 rebounds before fouling out on an illegal screen with 34.7 seconds left in regulation.
β Kyle Lowry had a triple-double of 13 points, 10 assists and a season-high 11 rebounds in Toronto’s 103-84 romp over Washington. DeMar DeRozan scored 25 points for the Raptors, who are off to the first 5-1 start in team history.
β Deron Williams scored a season-high 29 points on 10 of 15 shooting and had six assists in Brooklyn’s 110-99 pounding of New York. Brook Lopez added 20 points and nine rebounds for the Nets.
β Philadelphia is 0-6 after Mike Dunleavy scored 12 of his season-high 27 points in the third quarter of the Chicago Bulls’ 118-115 win over the 76ers. The Bulls led by as many as 18 points after halftime, but the Sixers used a late 13-3 run to close within 116-115 with five seconds left.
β Lance Stephenson capped his 17-point night by draining a tiebreaking, 3-pointer with 1.5 seconds left in double-overtime to give Charlotte a 122-119 win over Atlanta. Al Jefferson finished with a game-high 34 points and Gary Neal added 23 off the bench for the Hornets.
β Rookie Aaron Gordon scored six of his 17 points in overtime to push Orlando past Minnesota 112-103. Evan Fournier led the Magic with 20 points and Tobias Harris chipped in 17 points and 16 rebounds.
β Jared Sullinger scored 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter of Boston’s 101-98 triumph against Indiana. Celtics rookie Marcus Smart had to be taken off the court on a gurney in the fourth quarter after injuring his left ankle in the final period.
β Detroit got by Milwaukee 98-95 as Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 19 points and Brandon Jennings added 15. Josh Smith had a key put back to give the Pistons a 97-93 lead with 15.1 seconds to play.
NASCAR-KURT BUSCH/DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Delaware police investigating Busch
DOVER, Del. (AP) β Police in Delaware say they are investigating allegations of domestic assault brought against NASCAR driver Kurt Busch by his ex-girlfriend. Patricia Driscoll said the allegations involved an incident inside his motorhome at a race at Dover International Speedway in September, a week after the couple broke up.
Driscoll has filed court documents asking that a judge order Busch to stay away from her and not contact her. She also is asking that Busch undergo a psychiatric evaluation and be evaluated by a certified domestic violence treatment agency.
The documents say Busch was despondent the night of Sept. 26 after his poor performance at the qualifying session.

Hamlin takes Phoenix pole
AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) β Denny Hamlin has won the pole for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway.
Hamlin turned a lap at 142.113 mph to take the top starting spot. He was followed by Chase drivers Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick.
Eight drivers go into the race Sunday vying for the four spots in the championship finale.

Winston asks for delay in disciplinary hearing
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) β An attorney for Jameis (JAYM’-ihs) Winston says the Florida State quarterback has requested a delay in the student code of conduct hearing scheduled for the week of Nov. 17.
A lawyer for the woman who says Winston sexually assaulted her in December 2012 confirmed the request was made to the university but did not know how long of a delay Winston is seeking. Winston is facing a hearing to determine whether he violated four sections of the code of conduct, two for sexual misconduct and two for endangerment.

McGehee, Young take comeback awards
NEW YORK (AP) β Miami third baseman Casey McGehee (mih-GEE’) and Seattle pitcher Chris Young have been selected as baseball’s comeback players of the year.
McGehee hit .287 with 29 doubles, four home runs, 76 RBIs to win the NL honor following a season in the Japan Pacific League.
The 35-year old Young won the AL award after being limited to nine minor league starts in 2013 due to injuries. The right-hander was 12-9 with a 3.65 ERA in 29 starts and one relief appearance this year. He reached double digits in wins for the first time since 2006.
The awards were voted on by the 30 beat writers from MLB.com.

Romo works out…Cardinals’ Palmer signs through ’17
LONDON (AP) β Tony Romo has practiced with the Cowboys for a second straight day as he continues to recover from fractures in two small bones in his back. Coach Jason Garrett says Romo looked comfortable but still hasn’t decided if he’ll start at quarterback against Jacksonville Sunday. If Romo can’t go, Brandon Weeden will get his second straight start for Dallas.

β Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer has signed a three-year contract extension through 2017. Palmer has thrown for 11 touchdowns with just two interceptions to help the Cardinals open 7-1, their best eight-game start in 40 years. He is 15-6 as a starter since coming to the Cardinals in a 2013 trade with Oakland.
β Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett is questionable for Sunday’s game at Green Bay because of a rib injury. Bennett, who hurt himself in practice, was a limited participant Thursday and sat out today’s workout. Coach Marc Trestman says the Bears are “hopeful he’ll play.”
β Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants, leaving him likely to miss his second straight game with a groin injury. Safety Jeron Johnson is expected to get his first career start in place of Chancellor on Sunday.
β The New Orleans Saints have ruled out running backs Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. This marks the third straight game the pair will have missed.

Report: Bironas drunk, speeding
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) β Former Tennessee Titans kicker Rob Bironas (bih-ROH’-nihs) was intoxicated and speeding when he drove his SUV off the road and died, according to the final police report.
Data analysis shows Bironas was driving at 73 mph going into a curve where he lost control of his and crashed Sept. 20. The toxicology report showed his blood alcohol level was at 0.218 percent, well above Tennessee’s limit for driving under the influence of 0.08 percent.
Paramedics found Bironas at the scene before taking him to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Caps, Wings halt slides
UNDATED (AP) β The Washington Capitals have ended their five-game losing streak while adding to the Chicago Blackhawks’ recent woes.
The Hawks enjoyed a 2-0 lead until Andre Burakovsky (bur-ah-KAHF’-skee), Marcus Johansson, and Joel Ward scored in a 4:52 span late in the second period of the Capitals’ 3-2 triumph in Chicago. Braden Holtby made 38 saves for the Capitals, who were 0-4-1 since winning at Calgary on Oct. 25.
The Hawks have dropped three of four and six of nine since their 4-0-1 start.

β Arizona erased a two-goal deficit before Sam Gagner (GAHN’-yay) and Mikael Boedker (BAHD’-kur) scored shootout goals to lift the Coyotes past the Ducks 3-2 in Anaheim. Rob Klinkhammer and Shane Doan scored 58 seconds apart early in the second period to tie it for the Coyotes.
β Detroit’s three-game skid is over after Jakub Kindl (YAH’-kuhb KIHN’-dul) and Brendan Smith scored 33 seconds apart late in the opening period to put the Red Wings ahead to stay in a 4-2 triumph against New Jersey. Niklas Kronwall made it 4-1 in the second after assisting on Johan Franzen’s power-play tally earlier in the period.
β Carolina pulled out a 3-2 win over Columbus on Elias Lindholm’s power-play goal at 4:22 of overtime, giving the Hurricanes four straight wins since an 0-6-2 start. Victor Rask tied the game for the Hurricanes midway through the third period after Scott Hartnell tallied twice in the second to put the Blue Jackets ahead 2-1.
β Edmonton trailed Buffalo 2-1 until Mark Arcobello and Boyd Gordon scored four minutes apart in the third period of the Oilers’ 3-2 triumph over the Sabres. Michael Neuvirth (NOY’-vurth) kept the Sabres in the game by making 49 saves.

McDowell leads after two rounds
SHANGHAI (AP) β Graeme McDowell’s second straight 5-under 67 has him in the lead halfway through the HSBC Championship. The 10-under total gives him a three-shot lead over Bubba Watson and Ian Poulter. Watson closed with five straight birdies on the way to his 67. Poulter birdied four of the last five holes and also shot 67.
GOLF-SANDERSON FARMS CHAMPIONSHIP
Toms, Rollins share clubhouse lead
David Toms and John Rollins are clubhouse co-leaders at the midway point of the PGA’s Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi. Both are at 10-under par and two shots ahead of Nick Taylor after shooting 6-under 66s today. Fifteen players were on the course when play was suspended by darkness.
GOLF-LPGA MIZUNO CLASSIC
Pressel emerges to lead
SHIMA, Japan (AP) β Morgan Pressel (PREH’-sul) shot a 5-under 67 Friday to lead the Mizuno Classic by one stroke after the first round. She’s trying to end a winless drought on the LPGA Tour that dates back to 2008.
Laura Davies and Chella Choi of South Korea are tied for second after shooting 68s. Stacy Lewis shot a 70.
