COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) β South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier apologized for walking off without taking questions reporters after the Gamecocks’ overtime loss to Tennessee two weeks ago. Spurrier says he should’ve stayed and “faced the music.” Spurrier spent less than a minute at the microphone following a 45-42 defeat on Nov. 1.
LOS ANGELES (AP) β Kobe Bryant and Jeremy Lin each scored 21 points and the Los Angeles Lakers rallied to beat the Charlotte Hornets 107-92 last night for their first victory of the season after five straight losses. Carlos Boozer added 16 points in Byron Scott’s first win as Lakers coach.
AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) β Kevin Harvick dominated a race he had to win to advance to the final round of NASCAR’s playoffs, while Jeff Gordon was knocked out when Ryan Newman completed a last-lap pass. Harvick led 264 laps at Phoenix International Raceway yesterday to earn an automatic spot next week in the four-man Chase field in the finale at Homestead.
