Two Students Arrested For Having Pipe Bomb At Rowan County School

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Police say two Rowan County students were arrested for having a pipe bomb at Southeast Middle School. Β 

Investigators were called to the school on Friday in reference to a 13-year-old student being in possession of a suspicious device. Β The device was seized and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate. Β 

Police determined the device was a pipe bomb and was manufactured by the 13-year-old and another student who also attends the school. Β Police searched the students’ home for additional devices but did not find anything. Β 

Detectives say they do not believe the students planned on using the device at the school. Β The students allegedly intended to use the bomb in a wooded area near one of the suspect’s homes. Β 

Both students have been charged with felony possession and manufacture of a weapon of mass death and destruction and possession of a weapon on school grounds. Β Both students have also been suspended from school.
