NFL-SCHEDULE

Panthers visit Philly

PHILADELPHIA (AP) β€” All eyes will be on former Jets’ quarterback Mark Sanchez tonight, who is making his first start in an NFL game since Dec. 30, 2012 as the Eagles entertain the Panthers. Philly starting quarterback Nick Foles is out with and injured collarbone so Sanchez gets the nod from coach Chip Kelly.

The Eagles enter the game in first place in the NFC East with a record of 6-2 while the Panthers are 3-5-1 in the NFC South.

The Eagles, who lead the series between the clubs with five wins in eight games, are coming off a win over the Texans last week while the Panthers were beaten by the Saints. This is the third meeting between the teams in a Monday night game. They split the first two.

NFL-CARDINALS

Palmer done for the season

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) β€” Arizona Cardinals’ quarterback Carson Palmer told reporters that he’s not normally an emotional person but that on Sunday night he “cried like a baby” when informed that he was done for the season. Palmer tore an ACL in Sunday’s win over St. Louis.

The injury comes with Palmer playing some of the best football of his career on an Arizona Cardinals team that at 8-1 has the best record in the NFL.

Palmer says that he will play football again and hopes it will be for the Cardinals. Coach Bruce Arians says Palmer should be back by late June or July of next year.

No charges for McDonald

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) β€” The Santa Clara County district attorney’s office has declined to file charges against San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald in a domestic violence investigation stemming from his Aug. 31 arrest. Prosecutors said in a release that they were unable to charge McDonald because of conflicting versions of what happened, a lack of verifiable eyewitnesses and a significant lack of cooperation by the alleged victim, McDonald’s fiancee.

NHL-SCHEDULE

It’s a two game slate

UNDATED (AP) β€” The two NHL games tonight are being played in Boston and Raleigh, North Carolina.

At the same time in Raleigh the Hurricanes are facing Calgary. The game puts an end to a five-game road trip for the Flames, who have won four of their last five outings. The Hurricanes are back in action for the first time since losing to Washington on Saturday in a game that put to an end a four-game winning streak for Carolina.

Bulldogs welcome back running back

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) β€” The 16th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs have welcomed back tailback Todd Gurley. After sitting out four games because of an NCAA suspension, he is once again listed on the depth chart for the Bulldogs, who face No. 9 Auburn this week.

The junior was suspended for accepting $3,000 for autographed memorabilia and other items over two years. He was a leading Heisman Trophy candidate before the ban. Freshman Nick Chubb filled in with four strong starts for the Bulldogs as Gurley’s replacement. Chubb ranks third in the Southeastern Conference in rushing, leading to speculation he might keep the starting job.
