Denver assembles sparkling show of Cartier jewels

DENVER (AP) — Jewelry worn by Elizabeth Taylor and Princess Grace are among the items created by Cartier that are going on display in Denver in an exclusive show.

“Brilliant: Cartier in the 20th Century”, which opens at the Denver Art Museum on Sunday, chronicles the rise of the Paris-based jeweler from 1900 to 1975. It shows how its creations both mirrored changes in society and helped pioneer new styles through wars, the growing independence of women and interest in designs from beyond the West.

The pieces include Princess Grace’s 10.5-carat engagement ring and a ruby-and-diamond necklace from Elizabeth Taylor that doubles as a tiara.

The items, taken from Cartier’s collection as well as borrowed from other owners, will be on display in Denver through March 15.
