RALEIGH, N.C. — Police say an inmate on death row has died of natural causes.
Ernest McCarver, 54, died at a Raleigh hospital Friday. McCarver was convicted for murdering 71-year-old Woodrow Hartley in Cabarrus County in 1992.
McCarver received a death sentence in the case. His execution was scheduled twice in 2001 but appeals kept him alive.
