Β CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD is stepping up patrols around busy shopping centers as the holiday season approaches. Β One area of focus is the Galleria Shopping Center in South Charlotte.
Last year, police responded to almost 40 shoplifting cases between Thanksgiving and the end of the year. Β Police are also warning you to watch out for thieves snatching purses and cell phones.
“We ask you to consider that somebody is always watching,” said Lt. David Christy, CMPD. Β “Somebody is always watching you, waiting for you to make a mistake. Β And unfortunately that’s when you become a victim.”
CMPD is using federal grant money to pay for the extra patrols. Β The department is reviewing crime stats to figure out what days and times thieves are most likely to strike.
