CMPD Increasing Patrols at Shopping Centers

CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD is stepping up patrols around busy shopping centers as the holiday season approaches.  One area of focus is the Galleria Shopping Center in South Charlotte.

Last year, police responded to almost 40 shoplifting cases between Thanksgiving and the end of the year.  Police are also warning you to watch out for thieves snatching purses and cell phones.

“We ask you to consider that somebody is always watching,” said Lt. David Christy, CMPD.  “Somebody is always watching you, waiting for you to make a mistake.  And unfortunately that’s when you become a victim.”

CMPD is using federal grant money to pay for the extra patrols.  The department is reviewing crime stats to figure out what days and times thieves are most likely to strike.
