Edge on Demand: Surprise School Shooting Drills

This video is no longer available.

Only the cops and the principal knew what was happening during a recent school-shooting drill in Florida.  Police came in with full gear, weapons drawn, and kids terrified.  Parents didn’t get notified about what was happening until after it was over.  Which was after some of the kids had texted about it.

The police are saying they won’t do it this way again, but they’re not really apologizing.  They point out that a real situation like this wouldn’t come with any warning, so why should the drill?  Which might make some sense.

So what do you think?  Are surprise, life-like active shooter drills acceptable in schools?
