Olesen, Ramsay take early lead in Dubai

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen and Scotland’s Richie Ramsay shot 5-under 67s to share the early clubhouse lead on the first day of the DP World Tour Championship.

Olesen capped his round with four successive birdies starting on the seventh hole in ideal scoring conditions on the Greg Norman-designed Jumeriah Estates Earth course on Thursday.

Ramsay kick-started his round with three straight birdies and was unlucky not to birdie the last when his putt lipped out.

Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo, with an eagle on the seventh, shot a 68 to sit third on 4 under.

Top-ranked Rory McIlroy, who wrapped up the Race to Dubai title before teeing off, made the biggest move of the late starters when he reached 4 under after eight holes.
