CHOCOLATE SAMPLING EVENT SEEKS SPONSORS AND VENDORS Monroe – Restaurateurs, caterers, private chefs and bakers will serve up chocolaty desserts and savory dishes enhanced with chocolate at Chocoholic Frolic on February 5, 2015. The chocolate sampling event at Swan Manor will feature scrumptious tastings from about 20 vendors. An estimated 300 people will attend, enjoy and support local programs that teach adults to read. Now in its fourth year, Chocoholic Frolic raises operating funding for one-on-one tutoring that volunteers provide free of charge to adults learning to read. “We‘re raising money to fund the books, instruction materials, software, computers and volunteer training that are needed to run our literacy program,” said Jamie Underwood, executive director of Literacy Council of Union County. “At our downtown Monroe Adult Literacy Center and at libraries and churches throughout Union County, we teach functionally illiterate adults to read and write. The sponsors, vendors and guests are helping our students to meet their education and employment goals.” Literacy Council of Union County is a United Way of Central Carolinas member agency.
