Texans move Fitz back to starter…MLB minimum salary up to half-million dollars

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Washington will start Colt McCoy over Robert Griffin III on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. First-year coach Jay Gruden said McCoy will be given every opportunity to hold the job for the final five games of the season. Griffin is 4-14 as a starter since the start of the 2013 season and has struggled to adjust his game.

HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans have placed quarterback Ryan Mallett on injured reserve with a chest injury, meaning Ryan Fitzpatrick will start on Sunday against Tennessee. Fitzpatrick started the first nine games before being benched during the bye week in favor of Mallett, who went 1-1 as the starter.

UNDATED (AP) — A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press that Cuban outfielder Yasmany Tomas is in the process of agreeing to a $68.5 million, six-year contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The person said several additional steps were necessary but the agreement was likely to be finalized in the next few days. The 24-year-old Tomas hit .375 for Cuba with two homers and five RBIs in 16 at-bats during last year’s World Baseball Classic.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich missed last night’s game against the Indiana Pacers after undergoing what the team calls a minor medical procedure. Popovich also is expected to miss Friday’s home game against Sacramento. Assistant Ettore Messina will run the team in Popovich’s absence.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Martin Brodeur (broh-DOOR’) is getting a chance to revive his record-setting goaltending career.
