STATESVILLE, NC – Statesville Police say they’ve arrested 27-year-old Marcellus Brown Jr. Brown is accused of killing his girlfriend’s ex, 46-year-old Luis Mendoza at a home on Harris Street.
William Bullin, who also lives at the house, says he was asleep when it happened. He called 911 after getting beaten up during the ordeal. “He started hitting me with something,” Bullin says. “Busted me up pretty bad.”
Investigators say earlier in the evening, Mendoza had gotten in an argument with his ex-girlfriend at the house. She left, but her new boyfriend, Brown, showed up just after midnight.
“Don’t surprise me. Don’t surprise me at all,” says Lisa Sheriff. Sheriff says she lives at the house too, but is in the process of moving out. “There’s a lot of drama that goes on in this house,” she says. “It’s just a lot of fighting and arguing going on here.”
She returned Sunday to take her belongings after being out of town for a week. “My momma was, she was afraid it would be me, to be honest with ya,” Sheriff says.
