CMPD Identifies Man Accused Of Shooting At Officers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police identified a suspect accused of shooting at officers in east Charlotte Monday night.

Investigators say 27-year-old Stephon Caldwell fired shots at officers while they attempted to serve a warrant at his home on Rosecroft Drive.

CMPD Officer Christopher Leggett and Officer Robert Henderson both returned fire, striking Caldwell.  No officers were injured during the shooting.

Caldwell is currently at Carolinas Medical Center being treated for non-life threatening wounds.  Once he is released from the hospital he will be charged with three counts of assault on a government official with a firearm, shooting into an occupied property and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Both officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
