NEW YORK, NY / CHARLOTTE, NC — A second day of protests over the choking death of a New York man popping up in cities across the U.S.  Protesters are upset a grand jury decided not to indict a white police officer in the chokehold death of a black man.  The Department of Justice is now launching a civil rights investigation into Eric Garner’s death.

Back here in Charlotte, two peaceful protests over Garner’s death wrapped up Thursday evening.  Dozens marched more than a mile from the Mecklenburg County Courthouse to Romare Bearden Park.  A second group met in Marshall Park.  Some of them tell WCCB Charlotte that this is just the beginning of what’s to come.

“I think the main thing was to have our voices heard, make the stance and then get together people that are like-minded,” said Jah Smalls.

There will also be a gathering this Saturday at noon at Marshall Park to honor Garner.
