POLKTON, NC — The investigation into a prison murder in Anson County may have uncovered other possible problems at the facility.
Gregorio Vazquez pleaded guilty to murder this week. A judge sentenced him to at least 12 more years in prison. Joel Ortiz and Julio Zelaya-Sorto pleaded guilty to assault.
The murder happened during a fight back in 2012 at the Lanesboro Correctional Institution in Polkton. State investigators say a corrections officer let the inmates into the pod where the murder happened, but have no proof that the officer knew about their plan.
