DAVIDSON, NC — Davidson Police began using body cameras in September.  The department started looking at them two years ago.

Now it has six of the cameras, which are shared by 18 officers.  The town paid about $6,600 for the cameras.  Corporal Melvin Waller, Jr. says the cameras let people see exactly what happens at scenes.

“To show transparency, to show what was going on when we arrived, to show that state of mind of that person, that victim, that suspect.  To let other people know other than what we see in our eyes,” said Waller.

Davidson Police policy outlines when and how the cameras are used.  They have to be activated during traffic stops and basic arrests, as well as any time an officer responds to a disturbance call or a call involving emotionally or mentally disturbed people.
