GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) β Aaron Rodgers threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns as the Green Bay Packers beat Atlanta 43-37 to keep their one-game lead in the NFC North. Jordy Nelson grabbed two scoring passes and Eddie Lacy had two touchdowns to help the 10-3 Packers earn their fifth straight win. Matt Ryan threw four scoring passes for the 5-8 Falcons, who remain tied with New Orleans for the NFC South lead.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) β Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease and will begin chemotherapy for what doctors called a “very treatable and potentially curable” form of cancer. Berry had been undergoing tests at Emory University in Atlanta since an MRI exam nearly two weeks ago showed a mass on the right side of his chest. At the time, doctors were still uncertain whether the mass was cancerous, but further testing revealed the lymphoma.
NEW YORK (AP) β The three finalists have been named for the 80th Heisman Trophy, to be presented in New York on Saturday. Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota (mar-ee-OH’-tah), Alabama receiver Amari Cooper and Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon are in the running for college football’s highest honor. Mariota and Cooper just helped their teams advance to the CFP semifinals, and Gordon led the nation with 2,336 yards rushing and 26 rushing touchdowns.
SAN DIEGO (AP) β The Cleveland Indians have acquired first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss from the Oakland Athletics for minor league infielder Joey Wendle. The 31-year-old Moss batted .234 with a 25 homers and 81 RBIs in a career-high 147 games for the A’s. He hit .268 with 21 homers in the first half of the season to earn his first All-Star selection, but a nagging hip problem cut into his production over the final months
