(AP) — Panthers spokesman Charlie Dayton says Cam Newton has been discharged from the hospital following a two-car crash that left the two-time Pro Bowl quarterback with two fractures in his lower back. Dayton said yesterday that Newton was thankful for the care he received and is stiff and sore, but otherwise in good spirits.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Al Jefferson had 23 points and 14 rebounds, and the Charlotte Hornets withstood Boston’s fourth-quarter rally and beat the Celtics 96-87 last night. Kemba Walker added 18 points and Lance Stephenson had 13 for the Hornets.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) —Clemson has hired former quarterback Brandon Streeter to take over as quarterbacks coach, a role held by ex-offensive coordinator Chad Morris. Tigers coach Dabo Swinney announced the addition yesterday. Streeter has served as Richmond’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach the past three years.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says freshman quarterback Deshaun Watson will have surgery tomorrow and miss the Tigers’ upcoming bowl game. This will be Watson’s second operation this season. He broke a bone in his throwing hand against Louisville in October and missed his next three starts. The Tigers face Oklahoma in the bowl.
