CHARLOTTE, NC — Police misconduct and the threat it poses to the black community was the focus for a Blackout rally Wednesday night at Marshall Park in Uptown.

The National Action Network Youth Chapter is calling for change at the local level, asking Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police to release stats every six months about who is being arrested.

City Manager Ron Carlee spoke to the protesters: “We need young people to be engaged.  To watch what’s going on.  To share their thoughts and ideas and feelings with us.  And those of us in leadership positions, we need to listen to them,” he said.

The National Action Network is asking concerned citizens to come to city council meetings to put pressure on CMPD to be more transparent.
