CHARLOTTE, NC – Police are stepping up security and parents are sending out warnings on social media, after death threats were made against students at Providence High School. “They had the K-9 units going through the building. There were people everywhere basically,” says parent Kristi Buttles.

Buttles saw the two anonymous threats over the weekend on the social media site Yik Yak.  The latest reads, “Ya think this is funny haha wait till Monday when I ____ blow your brains out of your head especially a particular person I’m waiting to see in my sorrows.”

Another threat said, “Providence students, enjoy this lovely weekend with your awesome friends and perfect family. Come Monday, you will be repaid for all the pain you have caused me for years.”

“I think anything is possible. This could be a prank. It could be real. Only they in their heart know which it is,” Buttles says.

A parent sent a video of families gathered around a flag pole for a prayer vigil Sunday afternoon.

CMS leaders say they’re taking the threats seriously. In a letter to parents, Principal Tracey Harrill wrote, “The safety of our students and staff is always top priority. You can expect increased security at our school in the coming days.”

The school will open Monday morning at 6:30 and students are being told to report straight to their first block class.
