CHESTER, SC – Β Prayers and a call for help as families in Chester fight back against gang violence. Β
Some neighbors who showed up to a Sunday night prayer service say they’re being terrorized in their own homes.Β
Β
The Chester County Sheriff joined pastors and leaders for a city-wide prayer on the war on gangs at Brown’s Chapel AME Zion Church.
Β
“We’ve done a lot of suffering and been through a lot of pain,β said Pastor Bernard Morris.
Β
Heads were bowed and hands lifted at the church. Among the crowd holding hands and shedding tears was Sheriff Alex Underwood.
Β
“They want to be protected and they have to be protected and in order to do that, we’re going to need more man power,” said Underwood.
Β
After declaring war on gangs in Chester County last month, the Sheriff is now asking the county council for more deputies.Β
Β
“With 580 square miles and only five deputies patrolling on a shift, we’re looking at a little over 110 square miles for each deputy,” said Underwood.
