ASHE COUNTY, N.C. — The Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement are searching for an inmate from Wilkes Correctional Center, who walked away from an outside work assignment in Ashe County.

At approximately 2:15 on Monday, correctional staff were notified that 29-year-old Christopher Church was missing from his assignment at the Department of Transportation yard.

Church was serving an active sentence for habitual impaired driving. He was due for release in May 2015.

Authorities say he is from Concord and has family connections in Virginia and may attempt to travel there.

Anyone who has seen Church or has knowledge of his whereabouts should contact local law enforcement or Wilkes Correctional Center at 336-667-4533.
