With last night’s 31-15 pasting of the Bears in Chicago the Saints improved to 6-8, good enough for first in the mediocre NFC South. Drew Brees (breez) led the attack completing 29 of 36 passes for 375 yards and three touchdowns.
DALLAS (AP) β There’s bad news for the Dallas Cowboys as they begin their stretch run in the NFC East. The first-place Cowboys found out yesterday that league rushing leader DeMarco Murray has a broken hand. He has 1,687 yards rushing this season and has helped lead the Cowboys to a 10-4 record and first place in the division over the Eagles.
PORTLAND (AP) β In an early-season matchup of top NBA Western Conference teams, the Blazers beat the Spurs in Portland last night 108-95. LeMarcus Aldridge had 23 points and 14 rebounds while Damian Lillard had 23 points and 10 caroms in the win.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) β Despite the fact they have shown a four-win improvement over last year’s record at this time of the season, the Sacramento Kings have fired coach Michael Malone. The club’s general manager says he wants to see a more free-wheeling style of play from the Kings. Assistant coach Tyrone Corbin will take over on an interim basis.
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) β The Edmonton Oilers fired their coach yesterday. Dallas Eakins (AY’-kihnz) was let go a day after the club lost for the 15th time in 16 games. The Oilers are in the Western Conference basement with just 19 points through 31 games.
