CHARLOTTE, NC — The Lynx Gold Line is on schedule, despite an error in the track design for the streetcar project. Charlotte Area Transit says contractors laid 700 feet of rail line incorrectly between Myers Street and Long Street off McDowell. The lead project engineer says that’s slightly off, but won’t say by exactly how much.
“You know, you want that feel you’re on the rails,” said Senior Project Manager Tonia Wimberly. “Basically what they had was an extra curve. A little extra movement in there that we didn’t feel was good for our rideability.”
The contractor had to remove and re-pour concrete around the rails. The contractor paid for the work, not taxpayers. Testing on the Gold Line is expected to start in January, with service beginning in March.
