CHARLOTTE, NC — We’re getting reactions about President Obama’s historic change in policy toward Cuba from Cuban-Americans who live here in Charlotte.
Prominent businessman Felix Sabates says the U.S. should not be embracing a dictator. WCCB Charlotte caught up with Sabates at his Mercedes dealership in south Charlotte. Β He does not think anything is going to change for the people of Cuba.
“If you’re going to have freedom, you have to have liberties,” said Sabates. Β “You have to have liberties, you have to have free elections. Β There’s never going to be free elections in Cuba.”
Other Cuban-Americans in Charlotte say they hope the renewed relationship will allow them to visit family members who are still in Cuba.
