CHARLOTTE, NC — We’re getting reactions about President Obama’s historic change in policy toward Cuba from Cuban-Americans who live here in Charlotte.
Prominent businessman Felix Sabates says the U.S. should not be embracing a dictator. WCCB Charlotte caught up with Sabates at his Mercedes dealership in south Charlotte. He does not think anything is going to change for the people of Cuba.
“If you’re going to have freedom, you have to have liberties,” said Sabates. “You have to have liberties, you have to have free elections. There’s never going to be free elections in Cuba.”
Other Cuban-Americans in Charlotte say they hope the renewed relationship will allow them to visit family members who are still in Cuba.
