Β CHARLOTTE, NC — The Sony hack has a lot of people wondering what the companies they work for are doing to protect their personal information.
The hackers apparently stole the computer credentials from one of Sony’s top-level systems administrators. Β Movies have been leaked, along with internal documents exposing private company memos. Β The hackers also got employee salaries, social security numbers and health information.
Charlotte’s Theresa Payton is a cyber security expert. Β She says catching cyber threats is a company-wide effort. Β “You want to make sure you’ve got an active insider threat program,” she said. Β “So that way, if employees do see something that concerns them on the network, or they may suspect an employee or contractor of doing the company harm, they have a confidential and easy way to report that.”
Companies are also urged to keep track of what access each employee has to personal information. Β That way, individual threats can be isolated and kept under control.
