CHARLOTTE, NC — It’s been more than a year since a pot of boiling water fell on top of a Charlotte girl. Β She spent last Christmas at a burn center in Winston-Salem.
Friday, 6th-grader Shawntasia McGill got to meet the firefighters who helped save her life. Β This time around, it was all smiles. Β Shawntasia and her mom remember last Christmas Eve vividly, and say they’ve learned a lot since.
“Well, I was super shocked,” said Shawntasia. Β “I was scared, but I was still being brave.”
“Teach your kids about the kitchen,” added her mother Crystal Sinclair. Β “When a pot’s boiling or anything’s cooking in the oven, don’t play in the kitchen. Β The kitchen is not a place to play.”
Shawntasia says she’s learned a lot since last Christmas Eve, and hopes other children hear her story and stay safe in the kitchen.
