Five-pack of games scheduled
UNDATED (AP) β The NBA gets into the holiday spirit with five games scheduled today and tonight.
LeBron James is set to lead the short-handed Cavaliers into his return to his former foster home in Miami. Cleveland will be without starting center Anderson Varejao (VAR’-eh-zhoh) who has been lost for the season with a torn Achilles tendon. James is second in the league in scoring with a 25.2 average. Cleveland enters the game on a three-game winning streak and is 1 1-2 games out of first in the Central Division.
Chicago holds the top spot in that division and is hosting Kobe Bryant and the Lakers today. Bryant goes into the match-up third in the league in scoring with a 24.6 average. The Lakers are coming off a big win over Golden State on Tuesday. The Bulls have won four in a row
The Warriors are in Southern California again readying to take on the Clippers tonight. Despite the loss to the Lakers, Golden State still tops the NBA with a 23-4 record, good for first in the Pacific Division by five games over the Clippers.
Oklahoma City is in San Antonio later today to meet the Spurs. League MVP Kevin Durant has missed the last three games for the Thunder with a sprained right ankle.
Washington and the Knicks tip off the Christmas Day feast in New York.

Shockers play for title
HONOLULU (AP) β Wichita State’s men’s basketball team would like to claim a tournament title for its Christmas present. The same for George Washington. The No. 11 Shockers meet the Colonials in the title game of the Diamond Head Classic. Wichita State improved to 10-1 by squeezing by Hawaii in overtime despite shooting just 40 percent. George Washington has won five of six on the way to an 8-3 record.
BOWLS-SCHEDULE
Off day for bowls
UNDATED (AP) β The Bowl barrage takes a break today for Christmas. It resumes tomorrow with three games on the schedule.
In the Heart of Dallas Bowl 8-4 Louisiana Tech meets 6-6 Illinois. Rutgers takes a 7-5 mark into the Quick Lane Bowl against 6-6 North Carolina. The St. Petersburg Bowl matches 9-3 Central Florida against North Carolina State wich is 7-5
