CHARLOTTE, NC – 30-year-old Aaron McGriff walked out of CMPD headquarters in handcuffs Monday night. McGriff turned himself in and was charged with murder.
He’s accused of shooting 18-year-old Adrian Williams Monday morning by the Randolph Hills Apartments in Grier Heights. Police responded to a wooded area near Whealey Avenue and Ellington Street just before 9:45.
Family members and friends at the scene were visibly upset. Neighbors say they heard at least seven gunshots.
“It’s very frustrating, because you never know when you gotta duck in your own house. That’s not cool,” one neighbor says.
People along surrounding streets were told to stay in their homes throughout the afternoon as officers searched with police dogs and in the air. “I guess they had my house on lockdown or something. I don’t know,” one neighbor said.
Police say both McGriff and the victim Adrian Williams knew each other. According to investigators, the two were having an ongoing dispute.
