CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Don’t show up to that New Year’s Eve party empty-handed!

7th Restaurant is helping you out with an easy, yet delicious, recipe for chocolate mousse.

Chef George Kovach says you most likely already have the ingredients in your cupboard!

Ingredients
3 Cups Dark or Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
4 Cups Heavy Cream (2 cups held in reserve and kept chilled)
4 Egg Yolks
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon Salt

Directions
Heat 2 cups of heavy cream over medium heat until simmering. While cream is heating, whisk egg yolks, sugar and salt together in a mixing bowl until pale in color. Once cream is simmering, temper the egg mixture by pouring the simmering cream over the egg mixture while whisking vigorously. Once combined thoroughly, pour the tempered mixture over the chocolate chips. Let stand 30 seconds to melt the chocolate. Whisk together until smooth, strain if necessary to remove chunks. Refrigerate uncovered for 30 minutes to cool. While cooling, whip the 2 cups of reserve heavy cream into stiff peaks. Fold the chilled chocolate mixture into the whipped cream gently using a rubber spatula until blended. Do not over mix. Chill the mousse until set. Serve with a garnish of your choice like sliced bananas or berries, toasted coconut or shaved chocolate. Makes 12 – 15 servings.
