RALEIGH, NC — A number of new laws take effect in North Carolina at midnight Wednesday. Β Among them are lower tax rates for individuals and corporations, but fewer tax breaks.
North Carolina’s gas tax goes up a penny on Thursday to 37.5 cents. Β The rate is based on a formula that includes wholesale gas prices. Β
Also, state licensing boards, like plumbing, will have to recognize military training if the skills are equivalent.
And all emergency medical technicians and firefighters will face criminal background checks in North Carolina. Β Until now, the requirement was just for new employees.
