Hitchhiker Accused of Shooting Couple

ANDERSON COUNTY, SC — A hitchhiker is accused of shooting a couple that picked him up in South Carolina on Christmas Eve and leaving them on the side of an interstate.
The couple picked up the 22-year-old along I-85 in Anderson County. Β Investigators say he offered them money to take him to the Georgia state line. Β The Sheriff says he asked to stop for a bathroom break, then shot the couple in the back of the head. Β The woman died; the man is still in the hospital.
“He shortened their lives, and my son’s laying up there, well, he’s in critical condition,” said the man’s mother, Barbara Dobson. Β “And he’s fighting for his life, and this is a senseless act.”
Deputies eventually stopped the suspect for speeding. Β He admitted he considered shooting them until he saw the dash-mounted camera in the patrol car.
