CHARLOTTE, NC — One person is dead following a triple shooting in South Charlotte.  As police search for the gunman, WCCB Charlotte has learned that the victim recently got out of jail after serving time for murder.

Police found Ronald Hoover dead outside a restaurant on Fairwood Avenue around 4:00 Thursday morning.  The other two shooting victims showed up at Charlotte hospitals.  There’s no word what led to the shootings.  Neighbors heard gunshots, but some thought they were hearing New Year’s celebrations.

“Just heard a lot of firecrackers and shooting going on, but other than that… I just woke up.  I knew something had happened, because I saw the roped-off, taped-off… Anytime you see that, you know somebody done been murdered,” said Southside Homes resident Timothy Bell.

“I heard shotguns and stuff,” added Southside resident Thomasina O’Leary.  “You know it’s New Year’s.  I guess everybody was celebrating last night, and talking about a bullet hit him or whatever.”

Prison records show Hoover was convicted of murder in Mecklenburg County in 1995, and got out on parole in March.
