CHARLOTTE, NC — Local leaders, lawmakers and about 1,100 others celebrated Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s teachings with a prayer breakfast at the Charlotte Convention Center Monday morning.
For 21 years, the McCrorey YMCA of Greater Charlotte has held the breakfast to honor the late Civil Rights leader. Wilson from WCCB News Rising caught up with Mayor Dan Clodfelter to talk about how Charlotteans are honoring the holiday.
“It’s been great to see the tradition continue, and not only continue, but grow. We have other events now that have been added to the prayer breakfast, and there’s a great community outpouring,” said the Mayor.
Proceeds from the breakfast will provide programs for children and teens at the McCrorey YMCA.
