GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — UPDATE: Police have arrested 31-year-old Donald Hawkins, III and 28-year-old Cassie Hawkins in connection to four robberies in Gaston County. The suspects were arrested at the Walmart in Cherryville by police after they robbed the Kingsway convenience store in Dallas.
According to authorities, the first robbery happened just before 4:30 a.m. at a convenience store in Cherryville. Officers say a woman walked in the store, put a drink on the counter and asked for a pack of cigarettes. As the clerk rung up the items, surveillance video shows the woman reaching to grab something out of her jacket pocket. Authorities say they believe the female had a gun, but was frightened and ran out of the store.
The woman got away in a green GMC Sonoma extended-cab pickup, driven by an unknown male, with a handicapped placard hanging from the rear view mirror.
A short time later, Dallas Police say they were called to an armed robbery at the Ingles grocery store. Police say a female suspect robbed the grocery store of an undisclosed amount of cash and then took off. A third robbery was reported at a CVS store in Bessemer City around 10 a.m.
In all four incidents, police say no one was injured.
