CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β Jeff Gordon shocked the auto racing world with today’s announcement that this will be his final season as a full-time driver on the NASCAR circuit. The 43-year-old Gordon is retiring at the top of his game, winning four races last season to give him 92 career Sprint Cup wins and driving championships in 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2001.
KREISCHBERG, Austria (AP) β American freestyle skier Kyle Smaine won the world championship in halfpipe, while Virginie Faivre of Switzerland successfully defended the women’s title today. It’s the first major title for Smaine, whose best result in a World Cup was 10th.
