CHARLOTTE, NC — The manhunt for a murder suspect in Iredell County ended with his arrest in Charlotte. Β That suspect will face a judge Thursday.
Police arrested Jeffrey Gillespie after a traffic stop near an office building on Euclid Avenue in Dilworth Wednesday morning. Β He is accused of killing his estranged wife’s boyfriend. Β
A newspaper carrier found 25-year-old Robert Swedlund’s body outside the Troutman Animal Hospital on Murdock Road Tuesday morning. Β Neighbors tell WCCB Charlotte they are relieved an arrest has been made.
“You actually think you maybe sleep a little bit better at night too, knowing that he’s been caught and won’t be a danger to someone else,” said Troutman resident Don Cash.
Gillespie’s brother told WCCB Charlotte that the men got into an argument before the gun went off.
